Fire Truck Birthday Cake

This Wilton cake pan makes a nice 3D Fire Truck Cake. I found the pan on an auction site in my city and may not use it other than this time. There are many used ones available out there.  If you want to purchase one new, I just found them at Michaels along with lots of other cake pans.

For me a cake sums up this way: 1. Looks 2. Icing Taste 3. Cake. I’m laying it all out here. For things like this, it’s just much easier to use a cake mix. Use a good one though. We used chocolate cake mix for our for our fire truck.
The icing is another story. When it doesn’t have to be a perfect cake…..like a firetruck cake, I prefer cream cheese icing. Hum! Die some red and leave the rest natural. Because the icing is so thick, you lose the 3D of the cake pan but it gives you a great outline to embellish. Here, I used chocolate cookies for the wheels, chocolate coated candies for the ladder and fenders and some sort of chocolate ball for the siren and head light. Then I piped the outline of the fire truck doors, bottom, windows and such for the perfect children’s cake.
